Casandra Test Code QD76286Version 1 (DRAFT)
Performing Lab
Amylase Isoenzymes
Also known as: Fractionated Amylase, Serum, Salivary Amylase, Pancreatic Amylase
Clinical Use
Order TestUse
Amylase measurements are used primarily for the diagnosis and treatment of pancreatitis. Elevation of α‑amylase activity in serum is not specific to pancreatic disorders, since the enzyme is also produced by salivary glands and other organs. Clinical evaluations of patients with acute pancreatitis have shown that pancreatic isoamylase offers greater sensitivity than total amylase.
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
Oxalate, citrate, and lipemic sera can decrease results.
