BasoFunction™ HRT Cephalosporin
Also known as: Progene® BasoFunction™ Test
Use
This test assesses basophil activation in response to cephalosporin antibiotics by measuring histamine release from white blood cells, providing functional evidence of allergic responses when skin testing is unavailable or inappropriate. It is useful for evaluating suspected cephalosporin antibiotic allergy, clarifying true allergy status especially in patients with penicillin allergies, or those needing confirmation before procedures or future antibiotic use.
Special Instructions
Functional basophil activation test measuring histamine release in a controlled laboratory setting. Includes physician notes explaining results and recommendations; sample drawn via blood. Patients on calcineurin inhibitors (e.g., tacrolimus, cyclosporine) must hold these medications for 72 hours prior to collection.
