Cortisol, LC/MS, Saliva, 3 Samples
Also known as: Compound F, Hydroxycortisone
Use
This test measures cortisol levels in saliva collected at three different time points during the day to assess adrenal function, circadian rhythm, and evaluate disorders such as Cushing’s syndrome, Addison’s disease, adrenal insufficiency, stress response, and hormonal imbalance.
Special Instructions
Specimen collection must be performed using Salivette® Cortisol devices (blue screw‑cap) or acceptable saliva kits (Super SAL™ or Super SAL2™). White‑top Salivette® devices are rejected. Collection instructions include placing the swab in the cheek for approximately 2 minutes without chewing, then refrigerating the sample immediately. Timing should follow prescriber instructions for diurnal sampling. Collection should be done at least 60 minutes after meals, brushing, or oral intake and 10 minutes after rinsing the mouth.
Limitations
Specimens collected in white‑top Salivette® devices are rejected. Insufficient saliva volume or contamination may impair test integrity. Timing of sample collection is critical to interpret diurnal patterns correctly.
