Use
Qualitative detection of cytomegalovirus (CMV) DNA in saliva samples, useful particularly for screening neonates for congenital CMV infection, as detection may aid in early diagnosis linked to hearing loss.
Special Instructions
Use an ORACollection OCDC‑100 saliva collection device. Collect saliva using the sponge in the cheek pouch for up to 60 seconds. Handle upright to avoid spilling stabilizing fluid. Collect at least 30 minutes after eating or drinking. Do not touch the sponge tip prior to collection.
Limitations
Qualitative assay—does not provide viral load quantitation. Limited to saliva; other specimen types are unacceptable.
