Drug Monitoring, Fentanyl, with Confirmation, Urine
Also known as: Prescription Drug Monitoring, Pain Management
Use
This test is used to monitor for fentanyl exposure by detecting both fentanyl and its metabolite norfentanyl in urine. It serves as a clinical tool to screen for potential fentanyl use and to confirm positive initial screening results, thereby aiding in patient management regarding opioid exposure.
Special Instructions
If a presumptive (screen) result is positive, a confirmation test will be performed at an additional charge. If medMATCH® functionality is needed, order code 39158 concurrently; otherwise medMATCH results will be DNR’d.
Limitations
This test requires a urine specimen; accuracy may be affected by specimen adequacy or preservation. Interpretation should consider that standard immunoassay screening may yield presumptive results requiring confirmatory testing via mass spectrometry.
