English Plantain (W9) IgE
Also known as: ImmunoCAP®
Use
This test quantifies an individual’s IgE response to English plantain pollen (Plantago lanceolata). Allergen-specific serum IgE testing is considered comparable to skin testing and may be preferred in some clinical situations. A positive test indicates sensitization to the allergen, but not necessarily clinical allergy symptoms. Clinical diagnosis should be based on clinical evaluation by a trained provider.
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
A positive result only indicates sensitization and does not confirm clinical allergy. Many individuals sensitized to the allergen do not develop symptoms upon exposure. Clinical correlation is required.
