FISH, AML, CBFB/MYH11, Inversion 16
Also known as: Acute Myelomonocytic Leukemia, CBFB/MYH11 Gene Rearrangement, AML M4
Use
This FISH assay detects CBFB gene rearrangements, including inversion 16 and t(16;16), to aid in the diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) with CBFB‑MYH11 fusion. It is useful for identifying core‑binding factor AML subtype associated with favorable prognosis.
Special Instructions
Clinical history and reason for referral are required with the test order; prior therapy or transplant information should be submitted with the order. Specimen viability decreases during transit; specimens should not be frozen and may be canceled and replaced by ‘‘Cytogenetics Communication’’ if results are not possible.
Limitations
Specimen viability is sensitive to transit and handling; if viability is compromised or result isn’t possible, test may be canceled. Frozen specimens are not acceptable; viability must be determined at the testing laboratory.
