Helicobacter pylori, Urea Breath Test
Also known as: H.pylori Urea Breath Test, H.pylori UBIT, H pylori UBIT, H pylori Urea Breath Test, UBT
Use
Helicobacter pylori is a gram-negative microaerophilic curved bacillus with an affinity for human gastric mucosa. H. pylori has been identified as an important pathogen in the upper GI tract. The causal relationship between H. pylori and chronic active gastritis, duodenal ulcers, and gastric ulcers has been well documented. The PyloPlus® UBT breath test provides a non‑invasive and non‑hazardous method for detecting current H. pylori infection using urea breath analysis.
Special Instructions
Use the PyloPlus™ UBT collection kit consisting of paired breath sample bags (baseline and post‑dose), citric acid flavoring, ¹³C‑urea powder, and instructions. Patients must fast at least one hour before the baseline sample. Avoid antimicrobials, proton pump inhibitors, and bismuth preparations within two weeks prior to testing. Use only properly capped collection bags, submit paired samples together, and ensure specimens are submitted with the kit’s zip‑lock bag.
Limitations
Specimens other than those collected in PyloPlus® UBT collection bags are rejected; uncapped or single collection bags, insufficient breath volume, and specimens from patients younger than 3 years old are not acceptable. Antimicrobials, PPIs, or bismuth within two weeks may cause false negatives. Insufficient data for pregnant or lactating women.
