Hereditary Endocrine Cancer Panel
Also known as: SDHX, Multiple endocrine neoplasia, HNPGL, PGL, PCC
Use
This multigene panel is used to identify individuals with a hereditary predisposition to tumors and cancers of the endocrine system, especially those with a personal or family history of endocrine tumors that does not clearly point to a specific cancer syndrome. It is also useful when suspicion remains high despite negative results on a smaller test. Informed consent and genetic counseling are recommended. For individuals with a known familial mutation, the Hereditary Cancer Single Site(s) test (test code 93945) may be more appropriate. Genetic counseling and consultation with Quest genomic science specialists are available.([questdiagnostics.com](https://www.questdiagnostics.com/healthcare-professionals/clinical-education-center/faq/faq239?utm_source=openai))
Special Instructions
Informed consent is required, and genetic counseling is recommended. When possible, testing the family member with the youngest age at diagnosis is advised. A fully completed order is needed for insurance coverage verification and processing. Quest genomic science specialists can be contacted via Quest Genomics Client Services at 1.866.GENE.INFO.([questdiagnostics.com](https://www.questdiagnostics.com/healthcare-professionals/clinical-education-center/faq/faq239?utm_source=openai))
Limitations
This test cannot detect all hereditary predisposition causes; limited to the genes on the panel and may not analyze unexamined gene regions. It is not optimized for cancers outside the endocrine system. Rare or novel variant effects may remain unclear; false positives or negatives may occur. Results should be interpreted in clinical context; additional testing may be needed. Variant classifications may change over time, and follow-up review is advised.([questdiagnostics.com](https://www.questdiagnostics.com/healthcare-professionals/clinical-education-center/faq/faq239?utm_source=openai))
