Human herpesvirus 8 (HHV‑8) is associated with development of all forms of Kaposi’s sarcoma, and certain rare lymphoproliferative disorders including primary effusion lymphoma and multicentric Castleman’s disease. The qualitative PCR assay aids in the diagnosis of HHV‑8 infection by detecting viral DNA in clinical specimens.
