Lysozyme in serum primarily reflects granulocyte and monocyte turnover, with elevated levels seen in acute or chronic granulocytic or monocytic leukemias, and decreasing with successful treatment; levels may be depressed in lymphocytic leukemia. Useful for monitoring and differential diagnosis of these hematologic conditions.
