Use
Magnesium is an essential trace element. Deficiency may lead to irritability, neuromuscular abnormalities, cardiac and renal damage; as salts it’s used as antacids and cathartics. Excessive magnesium can cause central nervous system depression, loss of muscle tone, respiratory and cardiac arrest.
Special Instructions
Patient should refrain from taking vitamins or mineral herbal supplements for at least one week before sample collection. Do not centrifuge whole blood; packed RBC may be prepared by centrifugation and plasma removal, then transferred to a trace‑element free tube.
