Mycobacterial Identification and Susceptibility
Use
There are more than 70 species of mycobacteria of which the primary pathogen is M. tuberculosis. Tuberculosis is a chronic, granulomatous disease caused by M. tuberculosis. Identification and, if appropriate, antibiotic susceptibility is required to initiate necessary therapy.
Special Instructions
Preferred specimen: pure isolate on an agar slant in a double walled container. Acceptable: 3 mL (3 mL minimum) positive broth bottle or tube. Organism must be viable. For Nocardia identification refer to Bacterial Identification and Susceptibility, Aerobic or Bacteria Identification, Aerobic.
