Stone Analysis with Image
Also known as: Calculus Analysis
Use
Analysis of urinary or other calculi to determine chemical composition, assisting in identifying underlying metabolic, dietary, or infectious causes of stone formation. Facilitates evaluation of recurrent stone formers and informs prevention strategies.
Special Instructions
Clean any blood or foreign material from the stone with water. Air‑dry stone thoroughly at room temperature (~24 hours); a dry stone should not stick to container walls. Do not tape specimen; do not send in formalin, surgical gel, or any transport media. Avoid filters and cotton swabs. Stones received with residual liquid or dampness require additional processing and may cause delays. Multiple stones requiring individual analysis must be ordered and charged separately; each stone must be placed in its own plastic container.
