Use
This test is used to diagnose and monitor fatty acid oxidation disorders and organic acidemias. It should be used in conjunction with urine organic acids and plasma acylcarnitines testing to provide a comprehensive assessment of metabolic status, particularly in suspected cases of inherited disorders affecting metabolic pathways.
Special Instructions
Clinical information is needed for appropriate interpretation. Additional required information includes age, gender, diet (e.g., TPN therapy), drug therapy, and family history. It is advised to fill out the Biochemical Genetic Testing Patient History Form, available on the ARUP website or by contacting ARUP Client Services.
Limitations
This laboratory developed test (LDT) has not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. Its performance characteristics were determined by ARUP Laboratories and it is intended for clinical purposes under the CLIA certification. Results may be affected by dilute urine samples; repeat analysis using a more concentrated urine specimen is recommended if clinically indicated.
