Adenovirus by Qualitative PCR

Use
The Adenovirus by Qualitative PCR test is used to detect adenovirus groups A-F but does not quantify viral load. This test is recommended for specimen types other than blood. For blood specimens, the preferred test is Adenovirus by Quantitative PCR. This test provides critical information necessary for diagnosis and management of adenovirus infections, particularly in immunocompromised patients or in cases of severe disease presentations.
Special Instructions
Specimen source is required when sending the sample for this test. The test should not be used to quantify adenovirus viral load in blood specimens.
Limitations
Adenovirus by Qualitative PCR test does not quantify the viral load, meaning the exact amount of virus present cannot be measured. A negative result does not rule out the presence of PCR inhibitors in the patient specimen or assay-specific nucleic acid in concentrations below the level of detection by the assay. Particular care should be taken when interpreting results since clinical correlation with patient symptoms and epidemiological patterns is required.
