Use
This test is designed to detect and quantify adenovirus groups A-F. It is utilized to diagnose adenovirus infections in patients and monitor the disease progression and response to therapy. It provides vital information for clinicians in managing adenovirus infections, especially in immunocompromised patients where the virus can cause serious illness.
Special Instructions
The specimen source is required for processing. Ensure proper labeling and transport conditions to avoid rejection.
Limitations
A negative result does not rule out the presence of PCR inhibitors in the patient's specimen or adenovirus DNA concentrations below the detection level of the assay. The lack of an international calibration standard means caution should be used when comparing results from different methodologies. Current limitations include underestimation of viral load due to specimen inhibition and variability in reproducibility at the lower detection limits.
