Use
This test measures the level of specific IgE antibodies to Ampicillin, which can be used to assess for potential allergic reactions or sensitivity to this drug. It is important in clinical settings to determine potential allergen-specific IgE concentrations, which, despite increasing ranges, may not always correlate with clinical symptom severity when exposed to the allergen, hence requiring correlation with clinical history.
Special Instructions
Patient encounters should be minimized to avoid inconsistent results. Sample processing requires transferring serum to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. When ordering multiple allergens, consult the ARUP Allergen Specimen Collection Instructions for appropriate handling and storage.
Limitations
IgE results between 0.10-0.34 kU/L require specialist interpretation as clinical relevance is undetermined. Variations in allergen-specific IgE concentrations might not match actual clinical responses or skin test outcomes, thus accurate allergy diagnoses should integrate clinical history and observed reactivity. Negative results cannot definitively rule out allergy or anaphylactic risks.
