Use
This test quantitatively measures allergen-specific IgE antibodies in the serum to determine a patient's sensitization to Penicillin G. It is used to evaluate allergic reactions to Penicillin G and to aid in the clinical assessment of potential IgE-mediated allergic reactions, which are crucial for managing patients with a suspected Penicillin allergy.
Special Instructions
Due to fluctuations in circulating specific IgE antibodies to penicilloyl G or penicilloyl V, blood samples should be collected no sooner than 2-3 weeks and no later than 6 months following penicillin exposure. Multiple patient encounters should be avoided for accurate testing.
Limitations
Elevated allergen-specific IgE levels indicate sensitization but do not necessarily correlate with the severity of allergic reactions or skin test results. Clinical correlation with patient history and in vivo reactivity is essential for interpreting results. A negative test result does not rule out allergic responses or potential anaphylaxis.
