Use
The Allergen, Epidermals and Animal Proteins, Feather Mix test is designed to aid in the diagnosis of allergic conditions related to exposure to specific animal feather allergens, such as goose, chicken, duck, and turkey feathers. This test utilizes the ImmunoCAP Fluorescent Enzyme Immunoassay method to qualitatively detect the presence of IgE antibodies specific to these allergens in the patient's serum. The results provide insights into the patient's hypersensitivity reactions, aiding clinicians in managing and planning appropriate therapeutic interventions.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided when preparing for this test. It is crucial to use a serum separator tube for specimen collection and to transfer the serum into an ARUP Standard Transport Tube swiftly. Limitations
This assay only reports a qualitative result (positive/negative) and does not provide quantitative measurements of IgE levels for the component allergens. The specificity and sensitivity are limited to the detection of IgE antibodies to goose, chicken, duck, and turkey feather extracts. Hemolyzed, icteric, or lipemic specimens are unacceptable and may affect the reliability of test results. Cross-reactivity with other allergens is possible, and results should be interpreted within the context of the clinical picture.
