Use
This test measures the level of IgE antibodies specific to rat urine proteins using the ImmunoCAP Fluorescent Enzyme Immunoassay methodology. IgE antibodies are associated with allergic reactions; hence, this test is used to assess potential IgE-mediated reactions in patients exposed to rat urine proteins. The test results can indicate the presence and severity of allergies to these proteins, aiding in allergy diagnosis and management.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided to ensure accurate test results. Serum must be separated from cells as soon as possible or within 2 hours of collection, and transferred to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube for proper analysis.
Limitations
The results presented in kU/L reflect concentrations of allergen-specific IgE but do not necessarily correlate with the degree of allergic response or skin test results when exposed to rat urine proteins. The concentration levels in the test are intended for specialist interpretation, especially for values between 0.10-0.34 kU/L where clinical relevance is undetermined. A negative result does not exclude the possibility of a clinical allergy or anaphylactic reactions. Clinical correlation with patient history and in vivo reactivity to allergens is essential.
