Use
This test is used to detect the presence of allergen-specific IgE antibodies to beetroot in the serum, which can help evaluate patients with suspected allergies to this specific food. It is a quantitative measure that is part of diagnostic workup for understanding allergy profiles in individuals experiencing presumed or possible allergic reactions. The clinical correlation of laboratory results with patient history and clinical presentation is vital to assessing the likelihood and severity of allergies. A negative test does not rule out a clinical allergy.
Special Instructions
Avoid multiple patient encounters for specimen collection. Serum should be separated from cells as soon as possible, ideally within two hours of collection, and transferred to a specific transport tube for accuracy in testing. Proper storage and transportation conditions must be maintained to ensure sample integrity for allergen testing.
Limitations
Even though increasing IgE levels suggest higher concentrations, they may not directly correlate with the severity of a clinical allergic response. Some individuals may have significant in vivo reactions despite low antibody levels in the laboratory test, and vice versa. A negative result does not eliminate the possibility of an allergy or anaphylactic reaction. Correlation with detailed clinical history and, if necessary, additional in vivo testing may be required to draw definitive conclusions about allergen exposure responses.
