Use
The Allergen, Food, Crayfish IgE test measures the presence of IgE antibodies specific to crayfish in the serum. These antibodies are typically involved in allergic responses. The test helps in determining sensitivity to crayfish and aiding in the diagnosis of allergic reactions and anaphylaxis. However, test results must be correlated with the patient's clinical history and in vivo reactivity to specific allergens for accurate diagnosis, as IgE levels may not always correlate with clinical symptoms.
Special Instructions
Patients should avoid multiple encounters to prevent inaccuracies in allergen testing. Serum must be separated from cells as soon as possible or within 2 hours of collection to ensure test accuracy.
Limitations
The concentration of allergen-specific IgE measured may not correlate directly with the degree of clinical response or skin testing results upon exposure to the allergen. A negative test result does not rule out the possibility of clinical allergy or anaphylaxis. Results in the range of 0.10-0.34 kU/L are of undetermined clinical relevance and are intended for specialist use only.
