Use
This test is used to measure the level of allergen-specific IgE to lettuce, which may help diagnose allergy to lettuce. The test uses ImmunoCAP technology to provide quantitative measurements of IgE levels, which are used in conjunction with clinical history and other diagnostic evaluations to assist in the diagnosis of allergic reactions to food allergens such as lettuce.

Multiple patient encounters should be avoided when conducting this test.
Limitations
Allergen results between 0.10-0.34 kU/L are specifically intended for specialist use, as the clinical relevance remains undetermined. While growing IgE concentration levels are associated with a stronger likelihood of an allergic response, they do not directly correlate with the clinical severity of an allergic reaction or the results of a skin test when challenged with a specific allergen. Thus, correlating test results with the patient's clinical history and any in vivo reactions is crucial. A negative test does not rule out the possibility of an allergy or serious reactions like anaphylaxis.
