Use
This test measures the levels of specific IgE antibodies to Octopus proteins. It is used to assess allergic sensitization to Octopus, which can aid in the diagnosis of food allergy. Specific IgE levels help in assessing the probability of clinical reaction to Octopus but should be interpreted in the context of the patient's clinical history and other diagnostic findings.
Special Instructions
Avoid multiple patient encounters due to the possibility of variable IgE levels. Separate serum from cells as soon as possible or within 2 hours of collection to ensure sample integrity. Transfer at least 0.5 mL of serum to a standard transport tube for analysis, maintaining sample integrity by following detailed specimen handling instructions from the laboratory.
Limitations
Allergen-specific IgE concentrations do not always correlate with clinical response severity. A negative result does not rule out the presence of a clinical allergy or potential for anaphylactic reactions, as different individuals may respond variably when challenged with the allergen. The test should be interpreted in combination with patient's clinical history and in vivo testing as needed.
