Use
This test is used to measure the allergen-specific IgE levels to pears in the serum. The results help in diagnosing allergic reactions to pears and determining the allergic sensitization of an individual. Increasing concentrations of allergen-specific IgE are reflective of increasing sensitivity to the allergen, although these levels may not directly correlate with the severity of allergic reaction or skin testing results.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided for accurate test results. It is crucial to separate serum from cells as soon as possible or within 2 hours of collection to ensure specimen integrity. When ordering multiple allergens, refer to 'Allergen Specimen Collection Instructions'.
Limitations
Concentrations of allergen-specific IgE may not always correlate with clinical allergic responses or the severity seen in skin tests when challenged with the specific allergen. Negative results do not rule out the possibility of clinical allergy or anaphylaxis.
