Use
This test is used to measure the IgE antibodies specific to Swordfish allergens in the patient's serum, which can help to evaluate the risk of allergic reactions. The presence of allergen-specific IgE may suggest a sensitization to the swordfish protein, correlating with clinical symptoms of food allergy upon exposure.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided to prevent stress affecting the results. Ensure proper sample handling by separating serum soon after collection to maintain sample integrity.
Limitations
Allergen results between 0.10-0.34 kU/L are intended for use by specialists as their clinical relevance is undetermined. Increasing IgE levels reflect rising concentrations of allergen-specific IgE; however, they may not correlate with the severity of clinical symptoms or skin test reactions when exposed to the allergen. Interpretation should always be contextualized with the patient's clinical history and in vivo reactions to specific allergens.
