Use
This test measures the concentration of allergen-specific IgE antibodies against Acarus siro, a type of mite commonly found in stored foods such as flour and grain. The presence of specific IgE antibodies indicates sensitization, but it does not necessarily correlate with clinical allergy. Results are reported quantitatively, allowing for the identification of different levels of IgE antibodies over a range. Clinical correlation with patient history and symptoms is essential for accurate diagnosis, and this test can aid in identifying potential triggers in patients with suspected mite allergies.
Special Instructions
Specimen should be separated from cells as soon as possible or within two hours of collection. A serum separator tube is recommended for collection. Ensure proper volume collection to avoid the need for repeated samples.
Limitations
The presence of specific IgE antibodies, measured in kU/L, does not always correlate with the severity of the clinical reaction. False-negative and false-positive reactions can occur. Results in the range of 0.10-0.34 kU/L pose challenges in interpretation as the relevance is undetermined, and further consultation with a specialist may be needed. Additionally, a negative result does not exclude the possibility of an allergy or anaphylaxis upon exposure to the allergen.
