Use

This test measures the levels of allergen-specific IgE antibodies in the serum, which helps in the diagnosis and management of allergic diseases such as allergic rhinitis, asthma, and atopic dermatitis. Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided to minimize pre-analytical variability. Specimens should be collected in Serum Separator Tubes (SST) and separated from cells as soon as possible. If multiple tubes are collected, it is advised to avoid them. The specimen should be refrigerated during transport. Special attention should be given to the minimum volume requirements to ensure sufficient sample for testing.
Limitations
The test provides a quantitative measure of allergen-specific IgE, but the concentrations may not directly correlate with clinical symptoms or the results of skin testing. Allergen results in the range of 0.10-0.34 kU/L have undetermined clinical relevance and should be interpreted by specialists. Even with increasing IgE concentrations, the correlation with the degree of allergy or clinical reaction can vary. A negative test result does not completely rule out the presence of clinical allergy or anaphylactic potential; thus, these results should be correlated with the patient's clinical history and possible in vivo tests.
