Use
This test is used for allergen testing in patients from the central California region. It helps to identify the presence of specific allergen-specific Immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies that can indicate sensitization to various environmental allergens common in the region, including pollen, molds, and animal dander. The test assists healthcare providers in diagnosing allergic diseases and tailoring environmental interventions or treatments.
Special Instructions
Avoid multiple patient encounters to prevent variability in results. Ensure serum separation from cells as soon as possible or within 2 hours of collection.
Limitations
While the increasing concentration of allergen-specific IgE reflects the potential for allergic reactions, these concentrations do not always correlate with the severity of clinical responses or results from skin tests when challenged with specific allergens. Hence, correlating the lab results with clinical history and proven in vivo reactivity is crucial for accurate diagnosis. A negative result does not necessarily rule out clinical allergy or anaphylaxis.
