Special Instructions
Avoid multiple patient encounters and multiple specimen tubes during collection to prevent potential sample mix-up or contamination. Use a serum separator tube (SST) and separate serum from cells as soon as possible or within 2 hours of collection to ensure sample integrity. Ensure that a minimum of 1.3 mL of serum is provided, with 4 mL being the optimal volume for testing. Handle the specimen correctly for transport and storage to maintain test accuracy.
Limitations
The assay measures allergen-specific IgE concentrations, which may not always correlate with clinical symptoms or skin test results for specific allergens. Concentrations between 0.10-0.34 kU/L have an undetermined clinical relevance, requiring specialist interpretation. Even with low IgE levels, clinical allergy or anaphylaxis might not be ruled out, and high levels may not necessarily indicate a severe allergic reaction. Always assess laboratory results in conjunction with comprehensive clinical assessment and patient medical history for accurate diagnosis and management.
