Use
This test is designed for allergen testing specific to the south Atlantic region, particularly Georgia, South Carolina, and northern Florida. It measures immunoglobulin E (IgE) levels against various allergens prevalent in this geographic area, aiding in the diagnosis of allergies. Increased IgE levels may indicate an allergic sensitization to one or more of the included allergens, which range from environmental exposures such as grasses and trees to household allergens like dust mites and animal dander.
Special Instructions
When ordering, avoid multiple patient encounters. Collect serum specimens in a Serum Separator Tube (SST). Ensure separation from cells within two hours of collection, and transfer to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.
Limitations
The test's results should be correlated with clinical history and in vivo reactions to specific allergens. The presence of IgE antibodies does not necessarily correlate with the degree of clinical response or skin test results. A negative result does not exclude the possibility of an allergy or even anaphylaxis. Interpretations of low-level IgE (0.10-0.34 kU/L) should be performed by specialists, as the clinical relevance is undetermined.
