Use
This test measures the allergen-specific IgE antibodies to hazelnut, a common tree nut allergen. The presence of these antibodies in the patient’s serum indicates sensitization to the hazelnut allergen. It is used to support the diagnosis of hazelnut allergy in conjunction with the patient's clinical history and other diagnostic tests. The results might help identify patients at risk for allergic reactions to hazelnuts and assess the potential for food-induced allergic responses.

Limitations
The presence of allergen-specific IgE antibodies indicates sensitization but may not be directly correlated with the severity of an allergic reaction or skin test results. A negative test does not completely rule out the presence of a hazelnut allergy or the possibility of an allergic reaction, including anaphylaxis. It's essential to correlate laboratory results with the patient's clinical history and in vivo responses to hazelnuts.
