The Allergens, Food, Comprehensive Profile 1 test is designed to assess specific IgE antibodies against a panel of food allergens. It assists in diagnosing food allergies by measuring the immune response to various common food proteins. This test aids clinicians in determining if a patient's symptoms are related to food allergies, which can range from mild reactions to severe anaphylactic responses. Understanding a patient's specific allergen profile is crucial for dietary planning and management of allergic conditions.
Special Instructions
It is recommended to avoid multiple patient encounters to prevent cross-contamination. Serum should be separated from cells as soon as possible, ideally within 2 hours of collection. Ensure that patient samples are handled and stored according to specified conditions to maintain sample integrity and accurate results.
Limitations
Allergen results within the range of 0.10-0.34 kU/L should be interpreted cautiously as clinical relevance is undetermined. The test measures the concentration of allergen-specific IgE but may not correlate with the severity of clinical symptoms experienced by the patient or skin test results. A negative result does not rule out the possibility of a clinical allergy. All results should be considered in the context of the patient's clinical history and observed reactions to allergen exposure.
