Allergens, Foods, Common 10
Also known as: COMMONFOOD
Use
The 'Allergens, Foods, Common 10' test measures allergen-specific IgE antibodies for common food allergens including banana, peanut, egg white, egg yolk, corn, gluten, milk (cow's), strawberry, soybean, and wheat. The test assists in identifying potential IgE-mediated allergic reactions in patients, which can be useful for diagnosing and managing food allergies. However, the test results must be interpreted in conjunction with the patient's clinical history and other diagnostic findings, as IgE levels may not always correlate with clinical allergy or skin testing results.
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
Even though increasing ranges of IgE concentrations are reflective of increasing concentrations of allergen-specific IgE, these concentrations may not correlate with the degree of clinical response or skin testing results when challenged with a specific allergen. A negative test may not rule out clinical allergy or even anaphylaxis. As such, it is crucial to correlate lab results with clinical history and in vivo reactivity to specific allergens.
