Use
This test is useful for diagnosing allergic reactions caused by exposure to specific inhalants and foods. It quantitatively measures IgE antibodies against various allergens, assisting healthcare providers in identifying potential allergic triggers in patients and managing their conditions. The test includes common allergens such as mites, mold, animal dander, and various food items, which are standard triggers in allergy testing.
Special Instructions
Patients should avoid multiple patient encounters to prevent variations in test results. Serum must be separated from cells as soon as possible or within two hours of collection. Use of a serum separator tube is recommended. Proper handling and prompt serum transfer to the ARUP Standard Transport Tube is essential.
Limitations
This test may not correlate with the degree of clinical symptom severity or skin testing results. IgE concentrations indicated by the test do not directly equate to clinical reactivity or predict anaphylaxis likelihood. Careful correlation with patient history and clinical presentation is necessary. Results within 0.10-0.34 kU/L are of undetermined clinical relevance and should be interpreted by specialists.
