Use
This test is designed to assess allergy in pediatric patients by measuring allergen-specific IgE antibodies against a panel of common food allergens. It aids in the diagnosis of food allergies by quantitatively measuring the IgE concentration which can help predict the risk of IgE-mediated reactions in the patient. The assay covers important allergens in children's diets such as egg white, milk, oats, soybeans, and wheat.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided to prevent confounding the results. Serum separator tubes should be used, and multiple specimen tubes should be avoided. After collection, serum should be separated from cells as soon as possible or within 2 hours, then transferred to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.
Limitations
IgE concentrations detected by this test may not directly correlate with the severity of clinical symptoms or results from skin tests. A negative test result does not rule out the possibility of allergies or anaphylaxis. It is important to correlate laboratory results with clinical history and in vivo reactivity to specific allergens for proper diagnosis and management of food allergies.
