Use
This panel is used for allergen testing in patients from the North Atlantic region, including Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island. It measures specific IgE antibodies to several common allergens, which can assist in diagnosing allergic sensitizations and potentially guide allergen-specific management and treatment strategies in allergic patients.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided. Serum should be separated from cells as soon as possible or within 2 hours of collection to ensure the stability of the specimen before transfer to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.
Limitations
Allergen results between 0.10-0.34 kU/L are intended for specialist use as the clinical relevance is undetermined. Even though increasing ranges reflect rising concentrations of allergen-specific IgE, these levels do not necessarily correlate with the degree of clinical response or skin testing results when challenged with a specific allergen. It is crucial to correlate allergy laboratory results with clinical history and in vivo reactivity to specific allergens. A negative test result does not rule out clinical allergy or anaphylaxis.
