Amikacin, Trough Level (Change effective as of 01/21/25: Refer to 3018756 in the January Hotline)
Also known as: AMIKT
Use
This test monitors the trough level of amikacin in serum, measuring drug concentration just before the next dose. A trough that exceeds approximately 8 µg/mL is associated with increased risk of toxicity — monitoring ensures drug clearance near the end of the dosing cycle to optimize therapy and minimize nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity.
Special Instructions
This test was changed effective January 21 2025; providers are referred to ARUP test code 3018756 (“Amikacin Level, Trough, Serum”) for current ordering. Clients are advised to confirm CPT codes with their Medicare administrative contractor.
