Use
This test aids in the diagnosis of selected neurotransmitter disorders such as glycine encephalopathy and brain serine deficiency. It is a useful tool for evaluating amino acid levels in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), which can indicate various neurological conditions.
Special Instructions
Clinical information is necessary for appropriate interpretation. The test requires submitting the Biochemical Genetic Testing Patient History Form along with age, gender, diet, drug therapy, and family history information. The form is available on the ARUP website or through contacting ARUP Client Services.
Limitations
The test has not been cleared or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and is intended solely for clinical purposes. Results may be influenced by blood contamination or functional impairment of the blood-brain barrier, and additional tests on plasma amino acids and plasma ammonia might be necessary for accurate interpretation.
