Amphetamines, Serum or Plasma, Quantitative

Use
This test is used to detect exposure to amphetamines in a patient. It can identify the presence and quantify levels of various amphetamines in serum or plasma. The drugs covered include amphetamine, methamphetamine, methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDA), methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), and methylenedioxyethylamphetamine (MDEA), with the cutoff concentrations for each being 20 ng/mL.
Special Instructions
This test should be used for medical purposes only and is not valid for forensic use. It is imperative to separate serum or plasma from cells as soon as possible or within two hours of collection to ensure sample integrity. Transfer the separated serum or plasma to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube.
Limitations
The absence of expected drugs or drug metabolites can result from non-compliance, improper timing of specimen collection related to drug administration, inadequate drug absorption, or the inherent limitations of testing. The concentration value must meet or exceed the cutoff for it to be reported as positive. Hemolyzed specimens, plasma or whole blood collected in lt. blue (sodium citrate), and specimens exposed to repeated freeze/thaw cycles are unacceptable.
