Use
This test is used to identify cultured anaerobic organisms, which are not able to grow in the presence of oxygen. Accurate identification of these organisms is crucial in determining appropriate clinical treatment and antibiotics, as anaerobic infections can be significant in conditions such as deep tissue infections. The test utilizes methods like biochemical analysis, mass spectrometry, and sequencing to achieve organism identification, depending on the organism and situation.
Special Instructions
Indicate suspected pathogen when submitting for testing. Ensure organism isolation prior to submission to avoid delays. Mixed cultures incur additional processing fees and may result in delayed results. Each organism identification must be ordered separately.
Limitations
This test should not be used as a substitute for susceptibility testing. Identification is dependent on organism growth in pure culture and may not identify all bacteria if mixtures or non-viable organisms are submitted. Turnaround time is variable based on organism type and submission quality. Transport and handling of specimens need to comply with Infectious Substance guidelines if suspected pathogenic organisms are involved.
