Use
The Anaplastic Lymphoma Kinase 1 (ALK-1) by Immunohistochemistry test is intended for the clinical evaluation of tumors to determine the presence of the ALK protein expression. This test supports the diagnosis and characterization of certain malignancies, such as anaplastic large cell lymphoma, by detecting ALK protein overexpression or rearrangements, which can guide therapeutic decisions and interventions. ALK rearrangements are associated with a subset of cancers where targeted therapies may be effective.

Limitations
The test is performed as a stain-only service and does not include interpretive analysis. It is intended for technical purposes, and the performance characteristics were determined by ARUP Laboratories. It is not FDA-cleared or approved. The test is done in a CLIA-certified laboratory for clinical purposes but results must be interpreted within the full clinical investigation context. Specimens must be representative, as non-representative tissue types or depleted specimens may lead to erroneous results.
