Use
FISH testing on paraffin-embedded cells for detection of API2::MALT1 gene fusion. This fusion, associated with t(11;18), is frequently observed in MALT lymphomas (also known as extranodal marginal zone B-cell lymphoma of mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue) and constitutes about 8% of all non-Hodgkin lymphomas. The most common structural abnormality associated with MALT lymphomas is the translocation between API2 and MALT1.

Limitations
The test is performed by an affiliate laboratory. It is important that the tissues are correctly fixed as specified since improper fixative or decalcification can render the specimen unsuitable for FISH analysis. Extreme temperatures during shipping can also impact specimen quality.
