Use
This test is used for the detection of Aspergillus species in clinical specimens. It specifically detects the most common Aspergillus species and differentiates Aspergillus fumigatus, which is one of the primary causes of invasive aspergillosis. Early detection is crucial as this condition can lead to severe respiratory issues, particularly in immunocompromised individuals.
Special Instructions
The test was developed and its performance characteristics determined by ARUP Laboratories. It is intended for clinical purposes and has not been cleared or approved by the FDA. It is performed in a CLIA-certified laboratory. Specimen sources include bronchoalveolar lavage, bronchial wash, sputum, or tissue.
Limitations
This test may cross-react with Penicillium species and Paecilomyces species due to the broad range of the pan-Aspergillus primers. A negative result does not rule out the presence of PCR inhibitors in the patient specimen or assay-specific nucleic acid in concentrations below the level of detection by the assay. Therefore, clinical correlation is necessary to interpret the results accurately.
