Baclofen Quantitative, Serum or Plasma

Use
This test is used to quantitatively measure the concentration of baclofen in serum or plasma. Baclofen is a gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) derivative used as a muscle relaxant and antispastic agent. This measurement can assist in monitoring therapeutic levels in patients undergoing baclofen therapy and assessing potential toxicity in cases of overdose. Typical therapeutic serum concentrations are reported to be in the range of 0.08-0.40 mcg/mL, and values outside this range may require medical intervention.
Special Instructions
This test is performed by an external lab, NMS Labs. Ensure that blood is collected in appropriate tubes and separated from cells as soon as possible, but within 2 hours of collection. Specimens must be submitted separately when multiple tests are ordered. Lioresal is an alternate name for baclofen.
Limitations
The test may not be cleared or approved by the FDA, as it was developed and its performance characteristics determined by NMS Labs. It is intended for use by healthcare professionals in monitoring baclofen. Ensure that matrix and storage conditions are followed precisely to avoid degradation of the sample which may affect accuracy of results. It is vital to separate serum or plasma from cells promptly to prevent false readings. Results should be interpreted in conjunction with clinical findings and other diagnostic information.
