Bartonella Species by PCR

Use
This test is designed to detect Bartonella species in various specimen types including blood, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), or tissue. It is used to identify the presence of Bartonella infections which can lead to conditions such as Cat Scratch Disease and other bartonellosis. The detection is achieved using qualitative Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), which is a sensitive method to identify Bartonella DNA in clinical specimens.

It is important for the specimen source to be specified as this can affect the test processing and results. Specimens should be collected and handled according to the specified guidelines to ensure accuracy and reliability of the test results.
Limitations
This test, while highly specific and sensitive, may not detect Bartonella DNA in all infected cases, especially if the bacterial load is below the detection threshold. The presence of PCR inhibitors in the specimen may also lead to false negatives. The test has not been cleared or approved by the FDA but is performed in a CLIA certified lab for clinical purposes.
