BCL3 19q13 Rearrangement
Use
This FISH test is performed on hematologic specimens to detect BCL3 (19q13.3) gene rearrangements, which are commonly observed in chronic lymphocytic leukemia and small lymphocytic lymphoma. This information is crucial for the diagnosis and management of these hematologic malignancies.
Special Instructions
All attempts will be made to process and report samples received more than 72 hours post-collection. Bone marrow is the sample of choice in most hematologic malignancies. Use a refrigerated gel pack for shipping and ensure specimens are not frozen.
Limitations
The test is limited by the condition of the specimen, as clotted specimens, those exposed to extreme temperatures, or with insufficient number of cells, may lead to rejection. The test is also dependent on the stability of the specimen, which should be maintained at 2°C to 25°C for up to 72 hours to prevent degradation of cellular components.
