Use
Benztropine Quantitative, Serum or Plasma test is used to measure the concentration of Benztropine in the serum or plasma. This medication is typically used to treat symptoms of Parkinson's disease or related conditions by helping to balance neurochemicals in the brain. Monitoring Benztropine levels can aid in adjusting dosages to avoid potential toxicity, as its therapeutic range in plasma is approximately 80-120 ng/mL after a daily 4 mg oral dose. Toxicities are reported at levels greater than 100 ng/mL in serum.
Special Instructions
The specimen should be separated from cells as soon as possible or within 2 hours of collection. It is important to transfer the serum or plasma to an ARUP Standard Transport Tube. The test is not performed at ARUP; separate specimens must be submitted when multiple tests are ordered.
Limitations
The test has a reporting limit of 1.0 ng/mL. It is performed by NMS Labs and has not been cleared or approved by the US Food and Drug Administration. Digital data review may occur remotely by NMS staff, in line with CLIA regulations. Discrepancies in plasma concentrations could occur due to improper handling or storage of specimens.
