Use
This test is designed to detect the presence of precipitating antibodies (IgG) to specific bird antigens using the gel diffusion method. These antibodies are serological markers indicating exposure and potential immunological sensitization to the antigens from birds. The clinical significance of the results varies depending on the patient's history and symptoms, and it can help identify patients who have developed hypersensitivity reactions due to exposure to these antigens.
Special Instructions
Collection instructions require drawing blood in a plain red-top tube, with serum gel tube as an acceptable alternative. After spinning down, 1 mL of serum should be sent refrigerated in a plastic vial. Proper specimen handling and timely processing are crucial to ensure valid results.
Limitations
The test is limited by its methodology, which involves gel diffusion, a qualitative assessment technique. As such, it may not detect low levels of antibodies or distinguish between different subclasses of IgG antibodies. Additionally, hemolysis, lipemia, or icterus in the specimen are causes for rejection. The presence of precipitating antibodies should be interpreted in conjunction with clinical findings and other laboratory tests.
